Cut 20mm carbon steel, the whole cutting seam is inclined to the right

6000 watt fiber laser, cutting 20mm carbon steel, the overall kerf is tilted to the right, and oxygen is used as an auxiliary gas. The following are the troubleshooting and solutions for the current situation. Combined with the specific situation, especially the power of 6000 watts, the core of the problem is likely to be improper parameter settings and poor equipment status.

Parameter adjustment for 6000W cutting 20mm carbon steel

First, please focus on checking and adjusting the following core parameters:

1. Cutting speed: This is the first check item

  • For 20mm carbon steel, the recommended cutting speed for a 6000W laser is approximately in the range of 0.8-1.3/min. If your set speed is much higher than this range (for example, more than 2 m/min), the lack of energy can easily lead to the lower half of the cutting lag, forming a rightward inclined section. It is recommended to reduce it to about 1 m/min for testing.

2. Focus position: the use of “positive defocus” is the key

  • When oxygen cutting carbon steel, in order to obtain better section quality, it is usually recommended to use positive defocus. That is, the focal position is set above the surface of the material.
  • Adjustment suggestion: You can try the range of +8mm to +12mm. Although negative defocus can increase the speed appropriately, it will reduce the quality of the section and may aggravate the tilt problem.

3. Oxygen pressure: not too high

  • Too high oxygen pressure will overcool the incision and disturb the molten pool, affecting the verticality. For 20mm carbon steel, the oxygen pressure is usually in the lower range of 0.1-0.2MPa(1-2bar). Please check your air pressure settings.

4. Nozzle selection and height

  • Nozzle diameter: should choose a diameter of about 1.4 mm-1.6mm nozzle.
  • Nozzle height: keep at about 0.5mm, and ensure that the high capacitor works normally, and maintain this height stability during the whole cutting process.

Systematic Checklist

While adjusting the parameters, follow this checklist to troubleshoot hardware and infrastructure issues:

Step 1: Check the beam and nozzle coaxiality

  • This is the most effective way to solve the fixed direction tilt (such as the overall right tilt).
  • Method of operation: Use the red light indicator function or professional coaxial calibrator provided by the device to ensure that the laser beam is emitted from the center of the nozzle. Be sure to calibrate at multiple points over the full travel range.

Step 2: Check and clean the optical lenses

  • Check whether the protective lens on the cutting head is clean and free from damage. Contaminated lenses disturb the energy distribution and are a common cause of erratic cut quality.

Step 3: Check the mechanical accuracy of the equipment

  • Check the wear and lubrication of the machine tool guide rail and gear rack.
  • Confirm the verticality between the cutting head and the work surface. It can be measured at different positions with a straight-angle ruler.

Comprehensive adjustment proposal and process

1. Calibrate the coaxiality first, and clean or replace the protective lens.

2. Initialize the parameter to a conservative baseline value, for example:

  • Speed: 1.0 m/min
  • Focus: +10mm
  • Oxygen pressure: 0.15MPa(1.5bar)
  • Nozzle: φ1.4mm, height 0.5mm
  • Power: 80%-100 (4800-6000W)

3. A small range of test cutting, observation section.

4. Fine-tuning using the single-variable method:

  • If there is still tilt, adjust the speed slightly (± 0.1 m/min each time).
  • If the effect is not good after speed adjustment, fine-tune the focus (± 1mm each time).
  • Record the effect of each change and find the best combination.
  • If the problem persists after adjusting the system according to the above steps, then further consideration may be required:
  • Material factors: Does the plate itself have unevenness, uneven internal stress or serious corrosion?
  • Gas purity: Is the oxygen purity above 99.5%?
  • Equipment Advanced Diagnosis: Is the focusing mirror inside the cutting head offset? Does the geometric accuracy of the machine need to be recalibrated?

If there is a new phenomenon after testing a specific parameter (such as reducing the speed to 1 m/min and adjusting the focus to +10mm), it can be fed back at any time for further analysis.
